I have been playing the Sims franchise since its release in 1999. The first game, The Sims, was a birthday gift from my mother-in-law, who knew I was interested in the game. That year, actually, she had given me two games; the Sims was the only one I’d even opened. Since the first “sul sul” I was hooked. I was enamored with the little people who lived in my computer, who had their own language I couldn’t understand but laughed at, who just lived their day to day lives in their own little house with a plum-bob over their heads. Back in those days, the Sims didn’t age, and they seldom died (unless you did it on purpose). Oh, how far we’ve come.
Since the first game, I’ve become the proud owner of every game and expansion in the Sims franchise, including the now-forgotten Sims Medieval, Sims Castaway Stories and Sims Online. I have had my favorites, and ones I could have done without. The best expansion(s) in my opinion have been ones that introduce weather and the Sims 3 Pets, which included horses for the first time. I also enjoyed the Sims 2 “Open For Business.” Up until the Sims 4 “Dining Out” game pack (or the “Get To Work” expansion), this was game play that had been missing from the franchise for far too long. “Showtime” in Sims 3 was also a favorite, and is the star expansion in my upcoming Farmer Family Legacy story. My least favorites? Sims 1 “Makin’ Magic,” Sims 3 “Supernatural” and “Into The Future,” and Sims 2 “University.” I’m not a huge fan of the occult, so the expansions that introduced zombies, vampires, witches and plant people just weren’t as interesting to me as the weather, pets, and other things. I didn’t care for “University” because of the long, drawn out play of 4 sim weeks, and the fact that you don’t get the choice of how many credit hours you can do, like “University Life” in Sims 3.
Anyway, that’s me in a nutshell. I hope you enjoy the stories posted here, and comment on what you like, how you think the stories are moving, and share ideas and thoughts. If you like what you read, please consider sharing with other Sims aficionados!
